Quiz -E

Hello to all of you,

A quiz night was new to all of us, and we're happy to say it was a really enjoyable night last Saturday. Yes, we had a great time together, and we thank those of you who were able to participate.

It is true that some questions were difficult and although we wanted to offer different levels of ease and difficulty, we take note that in the future it would be better if the questions were based on more recent topics. However, guess an answer and getting it right can be a lot of joy, and a quiz is, in a sense, a challenge as well.

And then, we can say that the quiz allowed to learn some knowledge on the various subjects that we presented to you such as arts, politics, history, geography, gastronomy, idioms as well as songs. and movies.

You all really appreciated being in what are called 'breakout rooms' to discuss your answers with one or two people before we all got together to give you the correct answers.

Finally, we had a brief discussion about the animated film The Life of Courgette which you found touching. Thank you for your opinions so clearly given.

We have put a copy of the quiz on this website which you will find by clicking on the 2020/2021 season and the date of the quiz, November 14, 2020. Some of you have asked for the questions and answers.

Our next evening will be on December 12th when we will receive on zoom Candice François, associate lecturer in the department of foreign languages at the University of Exeter, who will give us an overview of idioms and words to master wine tasting, French-style.

If we were able to be in the Staplegrove room, this presentation would be followed by a good tasting of French wines, but, as this is not possible, we will ask everyone to have a glass (or a bottle of wine if you wish!) in front of you, to celebrate this occasion as well as the approach of Christmas.

This evening will put us in a good mood, especially after such a difficult year.

Many of you know our speaker, Candice François, because she came to present the subject of urban art and the language of the suburbs during which she told us about verlan (inversion of the syllables used, i.e. when the words are put backwards, to speak in slang) in February 2018. If you want you can watch the photos and videos of this evening by going to the 2017/2018 season and clicking on February 3, 2018.

Candice had enchanted us with her dynamism, her professionalism and her charming personality, therefore, we are happy to be able to receive her again. The evening of December 12 promises to be a superb evening!

We look forward to seeing you all again on December 12!

Thank you

Josiane and the circle committee team
